Spicy Blueberry Ribs

This might sound weird, but hear me out! Savory and sweet is an AWESOME flavor combination. Think about so many wing flavors that people love. Honey sriracha, Sweet Asian heat, Sweet chili...There are so many! So why not add blueberries to the mix? Mixed with a little bit of heat? Combined with yummy and fatty ribs? Literally, so good!

This recipe was inspired by blueberries I had that were about to go bad. I literally love blueberries so much, weird I forgot I had them but it happens! I think it ended up working out really well, actually, because I was able to have fun and think of a very out of the box recipe! Fresh fruit as a rib topping? Who would've thunk?

If you are vegetarian or not a huge fan of ribs, I would still try this sauce. It could taste good on tofu, maybe portobello mushrooms, wings, shrimp, a lot of different things!

Why does savory and sweet work so well together? I have discussed this in previous blog posts but, one reason is that the salt allows for the sweetness to be emphasized and perceived stronger by our brains.

Substitutions:

-Vegetarian: use portobello mushrooms or tofu or king oyster mushrooms (pull them apart to resemble pulled pork)

Can use as a wing sauce or use on top of anything, maybe even burgers.

This recipe is perfect for an easy BBQ with friends, a dinner date, a family dinner night, or anything else really! It is very casual, messy, and yummy. I hope you make this recipe and ENJOY!
