Red sauce (pizza, pasta, etc.)

Updated: Jun 9, 2020

Red sauce is a tomato based sauce. Even though it uses mainly tomatoes, it does not typically have an acidic taste. This is because when tomatoes are cooked, the acidic flavor is brought down, which is why it is important to cook the sauce on simmer for a long time. I like somewhat of a acidic flavor though, so I adjusted the recipe and it tasted so good! It turned out so flavor full and the bit of acid from the sauce tasted very good with the combination of the fat from the cheese in the pizzas I made with these ingredients. I definitely recommend you try this recipe. It is healthy, does not add sugar and so flavorful.

Ingredients:

1tbs minced garlic

1 can diced tomatoes

1-2 tbs tomato paste

salt to taste

basil

turmeric

chili flakes (desired heat level)

chili powder

1/2 tsp lemon pepper

Olive oil

Directions:

Heat olive oil in sauce pan on medium-high heat. Once hot, add minced garlic and roast. Mix in tomato paste, chili flakes and salt. Roast and mix frequently so it does not burn. Slowly add in diced tomatoes, mixing thoroughly. Add basil, turmeric, chili powder, salt and lemon powder, with a few tbs water. Leave covered on simmer for half an hour mixing occasionally. Taste and adjust salt as needed. Cook longer if still tasting raw tomato.

This recipe can be used for pizza, calzones, dip for mozzarella sticks, garlic knots, lasagna and pasta! I highly recommend trying this recipe!
