Garlic and Herb Mushrooms

Updated: Jun 9, 2020

Mushrooms are an AMAZING food. They are so nutritious, offering fiber, protein, folate (especially important for the pregnant ladies), zinc [which is good for immunity ;)], and potassium. They are also great for vegans as a meat substitute. This is because they have an umami flavor!

Umami is one of the five basic tastes. It is a savory and meaty taste. The flavor perceived by the brain is complex and is addicting. Monosodium glutamate (MSG), the flavor enhancer used by all fast food chains, Chinese restaurants and a lot of foods you would probably never expect, makes food addicting and this is because it activates your umami taste buds.

Some people don't like mushrooms. If you don't like them because of the texture, I would recommend chopping them up nice and fine and try adding them to things, like burgers and sandwiches and experimenting with their flavor. You might surprise yourself and find that you really like them.

Ingredients:

Mushrooms

salt

onion powder

garlic powder

pepper

cayenne pepper

dried dill

minced garlic

1tbs butter (or olive oil)

Directions:

Wash mushrooms thoroughly!

Heat pan to medium heat.

Throw in mushrooms (whole or chopped, depending on what type you use and size)) and allow water to evaporate from the mushrooms.

Add salt, onion powder, garlic powder, pepper, cayenne pepper and dried dill.

Roast for a minute and then add butter and minced garlic.

Mix and cook for around 5 minutes and enjoy!

This meal is delicious and if vegan use olive oil instead of butter. It is great if you are a meat eater trying to eat more veggies as well because you'll still be getting some similar tastes. Try it out and let me know what you think!
